The Girls on Fire podcast, hosted by Kristen Register and Megan Cabot, has quickly become a must-listen for professionals in the Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) industry and beyond. Since its debut on August 8, 2023, the podcast has offered valuable insights, practical advice, and inspiring stories that resonate with listeners at all stages of their careers. As the podcast celebrates its one-year anniversary, let's take a look back at some of the key themes and episodes that have made Girls on Fire a source of empowerment, growth and community.

Episode 1: The Power of Networking and Conferences

Kristen and Megan kicked off the Girls on Fire podcast by sharing the importance of attending industry conferences and networking as key strategies for professional growth. In their debut episode, they highlighted how these events not only offer opportunities to learn and develop new skills but also allow professionals to connect with peers, share challenges, and gain valuable insights. Whether you're in HTM or any other industry, this episode underscored the value of being proactive in networking and continuous learning as essential tools for staying ahead and thriving in your profession.

Episode 2: Balancing Work and Life in HTM

In their second episode, Kristen and Megan tackled a topic that resonates with professionals everywhere: finding a healthy work-life balance. They discussed the importance of setting boundaries, prioritizing health, and making time for personal well-being—all while maintaining a passion for your work. The hosts offered practical tips on managing work stress, the significance of unplugging, and the value of a supportive work environment in achieving a fulfilling career and personal life. This episode was a reminder that loving what you do doesn't mean sacrificing your well-being.

Episode 3: Navigating Stress and Mental Health Across Generations

As the fall season ramped up, Kristen and Megan took on the topic of stress management during busy times. In Episode 3, they discussed the mental health challenges faced by Generation Z compared to Millennials, discussing how increased exposure to social media and a more vocal approach to emotions might contribute to Gen Z's lower self-assessment of well-being. The episode encouraged listeners to prioritize self-care through simple practices like walks, music, and unplugging from social media. This conversation highlighted the need for mindfulness and self-care in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Episode 4: Overcoming Impostor Syndrome and Celebrating Small Wins

In Episode 4, Kristen and Megan introduced a new segment called "Moments of Joy," where they reflect on small, positive moments in their daily lives. The main focus of the episode was on Impostor Syndrome—a feeling of inadequacy despite evident success. They explored how this phenomenon affects young professionals, the signs to recognize it, and strategies to overcome it. The hosts emphasized the importance of building a supportive network, celebrating achievements, and embracing one's unique strengths. This episode served as a powerful reminder that self-doubt is normal but can be conquered with the right mindset and support system.

As the year drew to a close, Megan and Kristen used Episode 5 to reflect on the highlights of 2023. They shared their moments of joy and discussed the importance of community and connections during the holiday season. The hosts reiterated the value of attending industry events to strengthen professional relationships and create personal connections. They also introduced the concept of choosing a word to guide their intentions for the year, encouraging listeners to focus on personal growth and fulfillment. This episode was filled with warmth, community spirit, and forward-looking optimism.

Episode 6: Setting Intentions for the New Year

Kicking off the new year, Megan and Kristen set the tone for 2024 in Episode 6 by discussing the importance of setting realistic, specific goals. They shared their chosen words for the year—Megan’s "Health" and Kristen’s "Invest"—and discussed how these words would shape their personal and professional lives. They also highlighted the value of having accountability partners and avoiding the trap of overwhelming oneself with too many goals. This episode was a call to embrace change, stay present, and focus on small, achievable steps toward growth throughout the year.

Episode 7: Preventing Burnout and Finding Balance

Drawing from practical tips, including those from a Forbes article, the hosts discussed the importance of taking micro-breaks, practicing mindfulness, and setting boundaries. They also brought light-hearted moments to the conversation by emphasizing the importance of self-care. This episode highlighted the need for balance, self-compassion, and community support in navigating the challenges of the year.

Episode 8: Navigating Job-Related Red Flags with Sydney Krieg

In a special episode, Kristen and Megan welcomed their first guest, Sydney Krieg (still in my feelings, inside joke) from HTM Jobs, to discuss job-related red flags. The conversation covered the importance of a positive work environment, the need for a reasonable and timely interview process, and how to recognize when a job might not be the right fit. Sydney’s personal journey into sourdough baking added a delightful and personal touch to the discussion, making this episode both insightful and relatable.

Episode 9: Empowering Women in Leadership at MD Expo Vegas

Episode 9 was a celebratory recap of MD Expo Vegas, where Megan and Kristen highlighted the event’s success and the powerful networking opportunities it provided. They also focused on the importance of women in leadership roles within the HTM community, encouraging women to build strong networks, follow their curiosities, and speak up in their careers. The episode concluded with a reminder to stay committed to personal and professional goals, with Megan sharing her progress on her half-marathon training.

Episode 10: Mentorship and Soft Skills with Bryant Hawkins Sr.

In this episode, I had the privilege of joining Kristen and Megan, bringing my 30-plus years of HTM experience to the table. We discussed the importance into of mentorship, the impact of effective communication, and the value of staying connected through platforms like LinkedIn and YouTube. We also lightened the mood with a fun "This or That" segment, where I got to showcase a bit of my personality and my dedication to uplifting others in the HTM community. Of course, I couldn’t resist calling the hosts "hot girls," a playful twist I came up with to play off the title of their podcast, adding an extra layer of fun to our conversation. This episode was a great opportunity to share valuable advice with young professionals looking to confidently navigate their careers.

Episode 11: Taking PTO Without Guilt

As summer approached, Episode 11 focused on the importance of taking PTO without guilt. Megan and Kristen stressed that using vacation time is not just a right but necessary for maintaining mental and physical health. They shared the success of their first virtual career fair through HTM Jobs and reinforced the message that taking breaks is essential for long-term success in any career.

Episode 12: Embracing Opportunities as a Young Professional

In Episode 12, the hosts welcomed Allison Woolford, the YP of the Year, to discuss her journey in the HTM field. Allison shared her insights on the importance of asking questions, taking initiative, and stepping out of comfort zones as a young professional. The episode also touched on the challenges and opportunities for women in a male-dominated field, encouraging young professionals to be proactive in their learning and career development.

Episode 13: Celebrating One Year of Girls on Fire

The podcast’s one-year anniversary episode was a reflective journey through the ups and downs of their first year.
